It’s the most wonderful time of year…

December 13, 2008

I think I might have said it before…but I LOVE CHRISTMAS.

I love this entire time of year. I like to decorate and bake and listen to nothing but Christmas carols for a month straight.

I always say that even though Christmas is a holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus, I think everyone can join in the celebration. The story of Jesus’ birth is one of peace, redemption and joy. What could be wrong about that? Can’t you imagine that everyone could take something away from it, even if they don’t believe the story is true?

That’s why it saddens and angers me that people want to steal the meaning of this holiday – all because it might offend someone. There is nothing offensive about Christmas – and the more we try to strip the meaning away, the further the holiday slips into the depths of meaningless commercialism. In how many years will this holiday be unrecognizable?

The Christmas spirit is something special…and I never intend to lose it.

Who would want to deny me the happiness of the season? Especially when what I want is for them to join in the celebration – no matter their beliefs.
