Notre Dame should say "No Thanks Obama"

March 25, 2009

I live in South Bend – the home of Notre Dame. Citizens of this city (for the most part) are really proud to have such a respected university right here in our back yard. But their decision to not only let Obama speak at their upcoming commencement, but to actually honor him with a law degree is simply disgraceful.

Notre Dame is a Catholic university – and they are honoring someone who clearly does not uphold even the core values and principles of the faith. Anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

Perhaps if he were just speaking I could let it go. But to honor this particular president with a degree is unacceptable in my mind.

And I’m not the only one. You can sign a petition to let the university know that Obama is not wanted at this particular commencement ceremony.

Not only shouldn’t he be in this ceremony, he shouldn’t be in the White House. He is an usurper as I have demonstrated time and again on my site.

So just because Notre Dame is a Catholic university, they must ban Obama? Remember they do accept students who aren’t Catholic. And they get degrees, too.

There is a big difference between graduating non-catholic student who worked through the curriculum and honoring a president with a degree when he clearly represents the opposite of the values a Catholic university strives to uphold. What kind of a message does that send? And I’m saying this as a NON-Catholic. Like I said, it is disgraceful for the University to honor this particular president in this fashion. He in no way exemplifies the qualities that would qualify him for it. ~T the D

Notre Dame is a University not a “Catholic madrassa”, as pointed out by Joe Feuerherd in this piece: a Catholic, I applaud the University’s initiative to get past the rigid and fake “pro-life”/”pro-choice” shouting matches. I also hope it will lead us to leave behind the obscurantist gay bashing my Church is so often complicit of.

Yeah, I can see why you’d want Catholic universities to abandon the principles and values it was founded on. So you can get pass all this pesky fundamentalism. It’s sad that liberalism has stretched so far and so deep that it’s not even ok for a Catholic University to say say they respectfully choose not to honor something who opposes their values honored.~T the D

The Church wants to take back it’s Universities but it hasn’t been able to do so. State university systems undermined and undercut private schools long ago especially in New York. Obama probably invited himself to spite voters, divide them over a non-issue ( his speaking engagement ) which forces his (obamas) will on them Which is a defeat and asmear on the Church at the same time. Also he gets paid doesn’t he? True to his modus operandi he will then throw Catholics under the bus and instigate something like FOCA at first opportunity after speaking to and impacting the careers of a new graduate class!! Sorry but this is how he operates. The public will associate him with Catholic good even while he scandalizes you. Sorry but its true. He will use the school against itself, as is already demonstrated by these responses. He is an attack politician. He creates controversy. He is a false leader by this style.
