Ugh, put the race card away

August 4, 2009
Have you seen this?

Well, apparently it is racist. I assume because they depict a black man (oh wait, isn’t he also half white? Hmm…) with a white face. But really, you have to be reaching pretty fucking far down into the racism pot to pull that out.
Could it be that someone was simply making a comparison between two shysters who ruin lives with smiles on their faces? (I’m sure the comparison could run deeper, but I’m tired and hungry, so that’s all you get)
No, it couldn’t be that!
I know this may be hard for race-card holders to believe, but most people aren’t looking for ways to racially insult black people. Personally, when I look at Barack Obama I see a politician who I vehemently disagree with and not the color of his skin. I oppose him because I believe his policies are wrong for our country, not because he doesn’t look like me.
Now Nancy Pelosi – My disdain for her is almost completely based on her appearance. I now await correspondence from a Crazy Old Hag Union rep. Bring it.

Mmmm, ok color me confused. If Obama is being compared to a shyster, which shyster is he being compared to? I'm not familiar with this symbol as a shyster.

What I am familiar with is the minstrel show white man in black face … and this looks like a deliberate reversal of that image.

I find the image ineffective. I have no idea what the creator of the image had in mind. Hence you get to your paste your meaning on the image and others get to paste their meaning on the image … the very definition of an unsuccessful attempt at making a statement.

I think the meaning of the image is quite clear. Is it oozing sensationalism? Sure. Is it over the top? Obviously. But people get it, whether they admit it or not. Throwing race into the mix is only a lame attempt at making the message of the image less effectual. I guess everyone has their tactics.

    I think I see the connection…

"Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just… do things. I'm not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are."

"Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It's fair!"

I don't know if it's racist. What I do know is that associating an anarchist icon such as the Joker with Socialism makes no sense.

Agreed Alexandra, the Joker and Socialism just don't click together. It's probably why this thing didn't really pick up. It's been seen here and there since March, but didn't go "viral".

Above all it's a visual oxymoron.

A moment of analysis…after watching Dark Knight…there was this 30-40 minute period where I was buying into the Joker's argument and considered him the anti-hero of the movie. He was selling something and I was drawn to it.

Eventually….I came to realize that the Batman was right…and the Joker was something that you could never believe in any fashion.

I think the poster says the same thing. Obama is selling socialist values….but in the end…is it even socialism or is it something further from the truth of socialism?

In the end…the Batman was basically right, and my moral compass was back to pointing the right direction.

    Just two cents of analysis.
